‘The Paper Boat’ is our submission for the first-ever D2 render challenge organised by the D2 Conferences in collaboration with Droquis.
The brief was very open. It just stated that the presented visuals had to be inspired by the works of architect Hugh Ferriss.
Our vision was to capture the essence of architectural brutalism with a particular focus on verticality and lighting. It was important to capture Ferriss’s light treatment; a strong bright focal point at the base of the composition, complemented with more subtle backlights which give form to the volumes.
The paper boat, itself a strong structure made of sharp hard lines, floating through the darkness of night from the past towards the viewer as it were; an open-ended narrative confronts the viewer.
